Work Permits
Canada’s Temporary Work Permit program includes several categories designed to offer sometimes very specific needs and sometime varied needs of employers and foreign workers. A key category is the Employer-Specific Work Permit, which enables employees to work for a particular employer and in a designated role.
We provide services for all the following types of Work Permits
Temporary Work Permit
- Employer-Specific Work Permit: Allows you to work for a specific employer and in a specific job. It often requires a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) to show that no Canadian citizen or permanent resident is available for the job.
- Open Work Permit: Not job-specific and allows you to work for any employer in Canada (with some restrictions). This type usually requires you to be in a specific situation, such as being a spouse of a skilled worker or international student, or a participant in certain programs. Below are the popular categories
- POST GRADUATION WORK PERMIT (PGWP)For international students who have completed a program at a designated learning institution (DLI) in Canada. The permit’s duration depends on the length of the program completed.
- SPOUSAL OPEN WORK PERMIT (SOWP) Available for spouses or common-law partners of killed workers or international students in Canada.
Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA)
An employer might need to get an LMIA to prove that hiring a foreign worker. But it does not impact negatively the Canadian job market.
